What does “owning privilege” really look like in action? For us, it means using our privileged identities to make connections with others, share what we’ve learned and, hopefully, provide a pathway for others to join us in making change.
During this Mental Health Awareness Month, perhaps the most important thing we can do is understand the prevalence of mental illness. The last few years have been stressful for all of us. For those living with anxiety or depression, or who have experienced extreme isolation, the impacts of the pandemic are more pronounced. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 1 in 5 Americans experience mental illness; for 1 in 20 Americans, that experience is severe.
I expected it to be an opportunity to learn some business skills, network a bit, and return to work from The Conscious Entrepreneur Summit. I did not expect, however, for it to be sort of life changing. It even caused me to make some drastic changes to the way I was living my life and in turn my work.

What I thought about decolonization is different than what my heart truly feels. So, my journey to decolonization has led me back to my roots, the foundation of my Filipina personhood. I hope that these Filipino Indigenous concepts of personhood, an integral part of our pre-colonial system and practices, guide you as much as they have guided me to heal from the past so that we may become our whole selves again.
